The Campus Energy Centre (CEC) is a new, $24 million state-of-the-art hot water boiler facility at UBC. Located in the heart of the 1,000 acre Point Grey campus, the facility is capable of meeting UBC heating requirements. The UBC CEC is constructed using regional CLT panels as the main structure. This use of wood in an industrial building makes for a remarkably warm space. The project achieved all 19 energy points available under LEED NC 2009 as it is primarily heated by by-product heat from the energy generation plant contained in the main space. The CEC uses 63% less energy and 31% less water than a conventional building of its type.
